چکیده

The steady-state distributions and dynamical behaviour of zero-range processes with hopping rates which are non-monotonic functions of the site occupation are studied. We consider two classes of non-monotonic hopping rates. The first results in a condensed phase containing a large (but subextensive) number of mesocondensates each containing a subextensive number of particles. The second results in a condensed phase containing a finite number of extensive condensates. We study the scaling behaviour of the peak in the distribution function corresponding to the condensates in both cases. In studying the dynamics of the condensate we identify two timescales: one for creation, the other for evaporation of condensates at a given site. The scaling behaviour of these timescales is studied within the Arrhenius law approach and by numerical simulations. PACS numbers: 05.40.−a, 05.70.Ln, 02.50.−r

2 00 6 From urn models to zero - range processes : statics and dynamics

The aim of these lecture notes is a description of the statics and dynamics of zero-range processes and related models. After revisiting some conceptual aspects of the subject, emphasis is then put on the study of the class of zero-range processes for which a condensation transition arises. Evolutionary games of condensates in coupled birth–death processes

Condensation phenomena arise through a collective behaviour of particles. They are observed in both classical and quantum systems, ranging from the formation of traffic jams in mass transport models to the macroscopic occupation of the energetic ground state in ultra-cold bosonic gases (Bose-Einstein condensation). Recently, it has been shown that a driven and dissipative system of bosons may f...

Iterative Force-Field Calculation and Molecular Dynamics of Cyclooctanone

Body's iterative force-field computer program has been used to calculate strain energies in cyclooctanone (I). 348 MHZ 1H NMR spectra of (I) have been investigated over the temperature range of 25° to -160°C. Two conformation processes affect the 1H NMR spectrum of (I). Iterative force-field calculations on the conformations and conformational interconversion paths of ...

Statics and dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates in double square well potentials.

We treat the behavior of Bose-Einstein condensates in double square well potentials of both equal and different depths. For even depth, symmetry preserving solutions to the relevant nonlinear Schrödinger equation are known, just as in the linear limit. When the nonlinearity is strong enough, symmetry breaking solutions also exist, side by side with the symmetric one. Interestingly, solutions al...

Spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in double well potentials

We consider the statics and dynamics of F = 1 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) confined in double well potentials. We use a two-mode Galerkin-type quasi-analytical approximation to describe the stationary states of the system. This way, we are able to obtain not only earlier results based on the single mode approximation (SMA) frequently used in studies of spinor BECs, but also additiona...
